Random Cool Facts About Lesser Known Harry Potter Characters
There are so many characters in Harry Potter who are not as known as others. So, using a Random Wheel, I spun out 10 names of Harry Potter characters that we know less about. I would have loved to write about all of them, but there are just so many. Here are 3 facts about each of the characters selected, some of which you might know, and some you might not. Enjoy!
1. Zacharias Smith
- Zacharias didn’t fight in the Battle of Hogwarts.
- There is a chance that he is descended from Helga Hufflepuff, mainly due to the idea that Hepzibah Smith is his ancestor.
- He didn’t attend Dumbledore’s funeral. Instead, he left the castle the day before with his father.
2. Alicia Spinnet
- Alicia used to play as a Reserve Chaser before becoming an official one.
- Like Katie, she was a Reserve Chaser and only became a Chaser the year Harry arrived.
- She is the only member of the original Gryffindor Quidditch team that didn’t have any lines in the films.
3. Cadmus Peverell
- Cadmus was most likely Voldemort’s ancestor!
- He is described as an arrogant man.
- He may have created the Resurrection Stone.
4. Morfin Gaunt
- The name ‘Morfin” is similar to ‘Morfey’, which means ‘ill-omened’ or ‘ill-fated’.
- When Marvolo died, he inherited the Gaunt Shack, which he took care of poorly.
- Morfin’s whole backstory was omitted from the films. Dumbledore explained that the ring came from Merope, not Morfin.
5. Katie Bell
- In her third year, Katie caught the Mumblemumps and had to stay in the hospital wing.
- Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet, and Katie Bell fought over Lockhart’s cloak after Snape disarmed him.
- She owns a Magical Storybook.
6. Hepzibah Smith
- Hepzibah claimed to have been descended from Helga Hufflepuff.
- She never treated her house-elf, Winky, with cruelty despite that was the way many pure blooded families did. *ahem, Malfoys*.
- Voldemort used her death to turn the cup into a Horcrux.
7. Cormac McLaggen
- McLaggen was forced to repeat his final year!
- He joined Dumbledore’s Army and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Snape gave him a month of detention because he threw up on Snape’s shoes. Harry was to blame for this, tricking Cormac into thinking that he was eating dragon testicles, not dragon tartare.
8. Romilda Vane
- Romilda may have been a part of Cho’s group, meaning that she could have been one of the girls that were laughing at Harry when he tried to ask her to the Yule Ball.
- She owned a music box that was decorated with a ballet troll.
- She got along well with Leanne and Katie Bell, as they were seen chatting with each other.
9. Charity Burbage
- The word ‘Charity’ comes from the Latin word caritas, which means ‘generous love’.
- Charity says the same last words that Dumbledore did, before she died, only she added another ‘please’ after.
- Snape didn’t want her to die; however, he had to keep his disguise of being Voldemort’s man up so he did nothing.
10. Rufus Scrimgeour
- Scrimgeour uses a walking stick.
- The name ‘Rufus’ means ‘red’.
- The actor that played him also played a vampire in another series.
